Frequently Asked Questions

When should I select a pediatrician for my baby? +
We recommend choosing your baby's pediatrician during the third trimester of pregnancy, ideally between 28 and 34 weeks. Selecting a pediatrician before your baby arrives gives you the opportunity to meet the pediatrician, learn about the practice, ask questions, and feel comfortable with the care team that will support your child from birth onward. During an expectant parent visit, we can discuss newborn care, feeding, vaccinations, hospital procedures, after-hours support, and what to expect during your baby's first few weeks of life. Establishing care before delivery also helps ensure a smooth transition from the hospital to your baby's first appointment.
How many pediatricians are at Preferred Medical Group? +
Preferred Medical Group has a dedicated team of board-certified pediatricians across our five locations. Our pediatric team is led by Dr. Ritu Chandra, MD, FAAP, and includes Dr. Farrah-Amoy Fullerton, MD. We also work closely with physician assistants and behavioral health specialists to provide comprehensive care for your child.
What happens at a newborn's first visit? +
Your baby's first visit typically occurs within 3 to 5 days of coming home from the hospital. Our pediatrician will check your baby's weight, feeding, jaundice levels, and overall health, and answer any questions you have as a new parent.
Do you offer prenatal meet and greet appointments? +
Yes. We welcome expectant parents to visit our clinic, meet our pediatricians, and ask questions before your baby arrives. Contact us to schedule your meet and greet appointment.
What should I bring to the Meet & Greet? +
No paperwork needed for a Meet and Greet — just bring your questions. We will walk you through the clinic, introduce you to our team, and talk through everything you need to know about caring for your newborn in those first weeks of life.

Welcome from the Founder

Dr. Ritu Chandra, MD, FAAP

Welcome! I'm Dr. Chandra, a pediatrician and the founder of Preferred Medical Group. My family and I are proud to call Alabama home, and I've had the privilege of caring for this community since 2007.

As a pediatrician, I've always been passionate about providing the best care for children, but I recognized the need for both primary care and mental health services, which is why I've made it a priority to offer these services alongside pediatric care in my practice. It's important to me that every family has access to comprehensive care in one place, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to support the health and well-being of our community.

It's truly an honor to be trusted with your family's health, and I'm grateful to serve this community with the love and care that it deserves. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives — I look forward to supporting you and your family for many years to come.
